Emily Odillo Maher

EOMEmily started yoga as a release from the daily pressures of the corporate world in 2007. After a long day in the office, a session on the mat would leave her feeling calm and relaxed, yet energised.

After trying a number of yoga schools with various styles, Emily attended a Yoga Synergy class and found a new passion for her yoga practice. The Yoga Synergy style really complimented her sporty lifestyle, having a background in Athletics, Surf Lifesaving, Capoeria and Kiteboarding. Yoga Synergy’s strong emphasis on correct body alignment brought a certain sense of comfort and safety to her yoga practice. Through Yoga Synergy, Emily developed an understanding of adapting her practice, in order to nurture and energise the body.

As Emily’s daily practice intensified, she developed an enthusiasm to delve deeper into the teachings of yoga. She feels at peace when practicing and wants to assist others in experiencing the inner joy yoga brings to one’s life. Emily commenced a teacher training apprenticeship with Bianca Machliss and Simon Borg Olivier at Yoga Synergy in 2009. She completed the Yoga Synergy Anatomy & Physiology course in 2009 and currenlty again in 2010. She also attended Clive Sheridan’s workshop in 2009 and 2010, as well as Phil Lemke's workshop on the History and Philosophy of Yoga in 2010.

Currently a full time student at the University of Sydney, Emily is building on her knowledge of human anatomy studying for a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sports Science). Emily currently works 3 days a week in the Yoga Synergy office, running the admin of both the Bondi Junction and Newtown yoga schools.
