Steven Harris

Steven discovered Yoga in 1997. Inspired by Shri Pattabhi Jois' first visit to Australia, he initially commenced an Astanga practise at Yoga Moves which led him to Yoga Synergy in 1999.

Over the years Steven found himself drawn to the role of the teacher, being a certified fitness instructor and swimming teacher but ultimately to teach Yoga was his ambition.

Always fascinated by the body, he came from a gym and sports background playing rugby union, athletics and swimming however it was soon clear to Steven that he was looking for something deeper. In yoga he found a new form of movement appealing on much more than just the physical level. He loves the way the mind, body and breath merge in the practise and can’t wait to get on the mat! He is constantly amazed by the power of Yoga to transform people’s lives and the inner strength it creates.

Steven also has a fascination with Asia travelling extensively through India, Tibet, China and Nepal and has studied and practised yoga wherever possible. He has a passion for exploring isolated places and bicycle touring (ideally both together!) and recently conducted a trip across Tibet. In early 2008 he left behind a fast paced corporate job and has since created a more balanced life with the yoga practise and teaching an essential part.

Steven completed the YogaSynergy Anatomy and Physiology course in 2004, 2007 and currently again in 2009. He began a three year teacher training apprenticeship with Bianca Machliss and Simon Borg Olivier at YogaSynergy in 2004 and is currently a primary teacher at YogaSynergy.

Steven has also studied at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) with T.K.V Desikachar (T.Krishnamacharya’s son and primary student) in India completing a 1 month intensive and visiting whenever he returns back to India. He has completed workshops with Dena Kingsberg, Shandor Remete and Clive Sheridan (both in Australia and in India on retreat) as well as various meditation courses.

Steven believes that yoga doesn't discriminate. A practise that brings peace, union and joy. To be enjoyed by all.
