I am particularly impressed by their insights into Mudras, Bandhas, Nadi’s and Pranayama. The book is full of pearls never before delineated. A true conjunction of East and West.

Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’ is highly recommended to yoga teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and yoga practitioners. As a physical therapist and a long time Iyengar yoga practitioner myself, I searchedfor a book that would help me analyse yoga postures anatomically, biomechanically and therapeutically. When I was introduced to an earlier version of this book I was amazed at its accuracy and application to therapy; but the improvements made in this current edition make it an even more effective reference book. As a physical therapist I own many other anatomy and physiology books, which I use when researching a topic. When cross-referencing information in ‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’ I found the accuracy and comprehensiveness to be excellent compared with other yoga anatomy books currently on the market, which include many inaccuracies. The book is also a great reference source for physical therapists and others that have an interest in yoga.

The depth of information and knowledge in ‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’ is breath taking. This book explores the effects of yoga on each part of the body through the use of asanas, bandhas, mudras and kriyas while minimising the risk of injury. This book explores the ability of hatha yoga to develop both strength and flexibility and atthe same time to use yoga as a therapy for healing musculoskeletal injuries. If detail and knowledge is your thing, you will not be able to go past this text. Rarely has the use of bandhas integrated with the asanas been so well explained and with such detail and clarity. Highly recommended.

‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’ is an invaluable resource for both teachers and students wanting to take more responsibility for their own practice. In reading the text, it seems obvious that the authors are expert yogapractitioners and teachers, not just proficient in anatomy and physiology. Most injuries in yoga did not occur because a posture or movement was inappropriate for a student, but rather because a teacher did not understand the bodywell enough to teach the exercise safely. This book provides yoga teachers and students with clear explanations and instructions which they can use in their own teaching and practice. The information comes in a clear well-illustrated and engaging way that does not overcomplicate and succeeds in making anatomy and physiology relevant to the actual practice of yoga.

‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’ provides the missing link between east and west. You can’t learn yoga without doing it, and you can’t do yoga without learning it. If you are going to put your body on the line to explore yoga, then you had better learn how to protect it if you are going to survive the journey. This book teaches the yogi’s ‘suitof-armour’, the nine bandhas or body locks that take the danger out of yoga. Once you are so aligned it is safe and effective to apply seven powerful pumps described in the book for moving energy around your body. Then hang on for the ride of your life!

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE TEACHING AT THE YOGASYNERGY SCHOOLS IN BONDI AND NEWTOWN
Hello, Simon and Bianca.
I used to go to your classes for a couple of years while I was living in Eastern Suburbs. Since I moved across the bridge (I live near MQ uni) I've been struggling to find a decent yoga school. After YOUR content, passion, and structure nothing else compares. Which is terrible because anywhere I go now I have so high expectations that they are never met. So, maybe you could advise someone in this area or surrounding suburbs (I am prepared to as far from Ryde as to Crows Nest, or Gladesville, or Strathfield. Thank you so much for your advice.

PS The ideal situation would be for you guys to open a branch in this part of the city. I know you had one at Manly, but maybe the Crows Nest area is better. It would be amazing!!!!

Due to the nature of my work, I had ongoing ride side hip, back, elbow and shoulder pain for a number of years. Whilst this had been managed quite well by an Osteopath, I had eventually got to the stage where the pain was becoming increasingly disabling. I was finding that I was not able to hold the Osteopath's adjustments for any longer than a few days.
My wife had started Yoga at Bondi Synergy and had encouraged me to enrol with her on a 9 week beginner's course on a Monday Evening with Luke. I have now just finished my second 9 week course and have supplemented this with an Open Course on Thursday Mornings with Bianca, along with Synergy's DVDs when I am on holiday or unable to make classes.
The transformation has been amazing. Not only has my chronic pain virtually disappeared, I no longer need to see the Osteopath so frequently and when I do she has been very encouraged by my ability to hold and only need very minor adjustments.
Since starting Yoga at Synergy, I feel so much healthier, my body has increased core strength & I am better equipped to cope with both the physical and mental stress of my occupation. I hear many people say that they have tried Yoga and "it wasn't for them" or "it did nothing for them". What they often don't realise is that there are hundreds of different Yoga Styles & Practices out there and you need to find one that best suits you. I have tried other practices before and without question Synergy is the one for me.
Both my wife and I are now committed to Yoga at Synergy for the long term and we are very grateful to Bianca and Simon for their creation and to all of the instructors who teach with such enthusiasm and understanding at Synergy.
A word of warning about Yoga at Synergy - it becomes addictive!
