Yoga Synergy is one of Sydney's oldest, largest and most respected yoga schools.The unique Yoga Synergy style is based on a deep understanding of yoga anatomy, yoga physiology and traditional hatha yoga. The style has been developed over 30 years by physiotherapists (physical therapists), Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss. Yoga Synergy is like a flowing self-massage, that is very effective in developing strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, internal health, energy, grace, meditative bliss and the ability to deal with stress.

YOGA HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY COURSE with Phil Lemke (19-21 March 2010) - Download flyer (pdf)
For the past 17 years Philipp Lemke has been practicing, studying and teaching Yoga in its many forms around the world. Living in India for 7 years Philipp undertook extensive study and Self-inquiry in Meditation, Hindu & Buddhist Philosophy Traditions and Yoga. Philipp’s more recent focus has been as one of the primary teachers on the Inspya YTT Course internationally. Philipp’s main passion in teaching Yoga is “to attempt to preserve the depth of this great Tradition of Liberation Teachings while finding ways to integrate it into modern life.”
Course Outline – 15 hour Introduction to Yoga History and Philosophy
The objectives of the course are to give an overview of the history of Yoga, introduce the foundational principles of Yoga Philosophy and practice and to foster critical inquiry into our selves and Yoga practice. Topics covered in the course include: The ‘Core Concepts’ of Yoga Philosophy, The Vedas, The Upanishads (plus intro to Advaita Vedânta), Intro to Dvaita Traditions, Intro to Patañjali, Intro to Hatha Yoga.

Anatomy & Physiology Courses 2010
This is the 16th year Yoga Synergy is running courses on Practical Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Hatha Yoga. Yoga Synergy runs two simultaneous inter-related courses that can be studied concurrently or separately. The information derived from these two courses can be used to safely increase strength and flexibility whilst minimising the risks of injury through incorrect practice, and can also be used to help promote the healing of injuries with guidance on yoga therapy.

This course teaches the terms and concepts of anatomy and physiology which are important to understand in order to be able to make practical applications of anatomy and physiology to Hatha Yoga. The course involves the study of musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology of the body’s main systems, biomechanics, human movement and exercise physiology.

The course provides yoga teachers and students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the basic workings of the body while practicing asanas (static postures), vinyasas (dynamic exercises), and pranayamas (breathing exercises) of Hatha yoga. This is a very practical course that taught in a similar fashion to a yoga workshop. It deals with the physical applications of the information taught in the companion Course 1: Basic Anatomy & Physiology. Students should be prepared to do some optional yoga exercises during these sessions in order to better understand the information presented.

Yoga During Pregnancy DVD
Yoga Synergy has released Yoga During Pregnancy, a DVD featuring an instructed prenatal Yoga Synergy sequence and lecture given by Yoga Synergy's Bianca Machliss at 28 weeks. The DVD also contains slideshows of beginner to advanced postures, information on safe practice and the benefits of yoga during pregnancy.
Yoga Synergy Applied Anatomy & Physiology Textbook
Yoga Synergy has developed courses in Yoga Anatomy & Physiology that are taught internationally. To complement these courses Yoga Synergy has also developed a comprehensive textbook Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga by Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss. The book is the main yoga anatomy and physiology text used in many yoga teacher training courses around the world as well as several courses developed by the authors for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at RMIT University (Melbourne).

YogaSynergy classes are held at Bondi and Newtown. Yoga Synergy offers Open Casual classes (all levels are welcome to attend) and a range of courses designed to cater specifically to Beginner to Advanced yoga practitioners.
Five different YogaSynergy sequences (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether) are taught progressively over the year. Design of these sequences takes into consideration the time of the year and the ability of the practitioner. Every 9 weeks a new sequence of yoga postures and exercises is introduced in Open Casual classes and pre-booked courses.
