Meditation

Yoga Synergy offers meditation classes to help you live life more fully, reduce your stress levels and cultivate qualities such as acceptance, patience, and compassion. Meditation is a way of achieving what the Buddhists call mindfulness – a state of calm awareness of your body and mind. Whether you do this through yoga, meditation or both, the approach is the same. It’s about learning to focus on your breathing and remaining completely in the present moment.

While the main influences are Buddhism and Hatha Yoga, Yoga Synergy’s meditation classes are non-religious and non-sectarian. There are two classes currently on offer – one taught by Mercy Wolf and one by Penelope Gill. Each class will begin and end in the same way so you’ll learn how to prepare for and complete your meditation practice. However, each week you’ll also be introduced to new aspects of meditation and / or meditation techniques. Beginners and experienced practitioners are welcome. Yoga Synergy’s meditation courses are designed so you can choose to either attend casually or commit to coming each week and experience the whole program.

Classes may include gentle stretches to enable you to sit more comfortably. Please wear comfortable clothing, such as tights or loose pants that enable you to move freely and sit without distraction.

About Penny

Penny has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 35 years. Her interest in yoga was sparked upon reading B.K.S. Iyengar's Light on Yoga which led her to travel to India in her early 20s where she attended daily classes at the Sivananda ashram. After returning to Australia, Penny trained as a visual artist and set up and ran a successful artist's co-operative for several years. She continued her practice with well-known Sydney yoga teacher Acharya Upendra Roy and then with Yoga Synergy. Penny is a qualified and experienced yoga and meditation teacher; she readily shares a depth of understanding developed through her years of personal practice. Aside from her interest in yoga and meditation, Penny is a keen gardener and an avid violinist. Her daughter Verity also teaches for Yoga Synergy. Read more

About Mercy

At 17, Mercy visited her first ashram and her spiritual mission began. Mercy has trained in a range of meditation styles including Transcendental, Vipassana and Tibetan Buddhist. “I have studied, practiced and read widely, exploring the spiritual traditions of many cultures and civilizations. Although essentially I practice Buddhist mindfulness, I continue to be influenced by a wide range of sources – everything from Native American traditions to new age philosophy.” As well as teaching meditation, Mercy is also an Inner Voyage Teacher Trainer.
